Unusual Quadrupole Splitting in Di- and Trialkylamine Substituted Pentacyanoferrate(II) Complexes

A series of pentacyanoferrate complexes, N a3[F e (C N )5L ] /jH20 , where L = (C H 3) 2N H , (C 2H 5) 2N H , (C 2H 5)3N , (C 3H 7)2N H , (C 4H 9)2N H , (C 4H 9)3N and (C 6H 5)2N H were studied by Mössbauer and infrared spectroscopy. A ll the complexes exhibited two line spectra with A E Q = 0.73—1.92 mms“1 and <5 = —0.04—0.49 m m s '1 (w.r.t. SNP) and can be divided into two groups with well defined parameters. Partial isomer shift and partial quadrupole splitting values were correlated with bonding characteristics.
